Beir Ahmed
Beir Ahmed is a prison in Aden, Yemen, operated by the United Arab Emirates.
Operations
The staff of Beir Ahmed are primarily Yemeni, though the officers are from the United Arab Emirates.[1] Security is provided by Security Belt, a UAE-funded militia.[2]
In July 2018, Yemeni Interior Minister Ahmed al-Maysari demanded that the UAE close or surrender control of the prison.[2]
On July 3, 2018 forty-six detainees were released from the prison.[3]
Abuse
According to reporting by The Associated Press, detainees at Beir Ahmed have been subjected to torture and sexual abuse.[1] Detainees have been raped, had their genitals electrocuted, and had rocks hung from their testicles.[1]
Detainees at the prison are held without being charged of tried.[1]

Prosecutor Mohammed Ali Saleh confirmed the release of the 46 on Tuesday, without elaborating, while the detainees themselves gave The Associated Press a list with their names.
