Bitcasa, Inc., is a start-up company, founded in 2011 and led by CEO Tony Gauda and co-founders Kevin Blackham and Joel Andren, headquartered in Mountain View, California,[1] offering unlimited data storage as a cloud service. An allegedly patented algorithm reduces the actual storage need by identifying duplicate content, and provides encryption of the stored data.[2] However, the patent is not yet identified.[3] Bitcasa is founded by former Mastercard and Mozy employees and backed by top-tier investors including Horizons Ventures, Pelion Venture Partners, Samsung Ventures, and Andreessen Horowitz.

The service was announced at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference in San Francisco in September 2011, where it was among the finalists.[4] CrunchFund is an investor in Bitcasa.[4]

In December 2012, Bitcasa announced the launch of the Infinite Drive™ for Windows 8 users, and mobile apps for Android users. The Bitcasa claims to use the technology Infinite Drive™ to make paid users' devices' hard drive space infinite, so users never have to worry about disk space again. Users can save, access, and share an unlimited number of documents, pictures, music and movies from any device. It is claimed that everything is encrypted locally and backed up in the cloud so user data is always safe. Apple and iOS features are projected to be launched in January 2013.

On February 5, 2013, Bitcasa went out of Beta, starting the charge $10 per month or $99 for a year. However, for a limited time during the month of February, users can upgrade to infinite storage for $69 for the first year. Also, their iOS and Mac apps were released on the same day.
