Blade inspection method is a system to detect cracks in the main rotor blade spars. The method involves pressurizing the interior cavity of the rotor blade spar with nitrogen. If a crack is present, pressure is lost and an indicator on the rotor blade root end is tripped.[1] The BIM system is connected to a cockpit display. BIM allows only flawed rotor blades to be swapped out. This method has been used on Sikorsky's S-61 series[1], S-65 series, and some later helicopter models.
