Professor Brian MacCraith is the current president of Dublin City University in Ireland, a faculty which he joined in 1986. He is also the former director of the Biomedical Diagnostics Institute (BDI) in Dublin.

MacCraith, born in Dundalk, Ireland, obtained a BSc in Physics and a PhD on "Optical Spectroscopy of chromium-doped crystal". He has been heavily involved in research into optical sensors and led the proposal to establish the National Centre for Sensor Research (NCSR) at Dublin City University in 1999. He also became the first Director of the Centre. [1]
