Chain (caste)

The Chain, sometimes also pronounced as Chai, are cultivating and fishing caste found in eastern Uttar Pradesh in India. They are a sub-group within the larger Kewat communinity of North India.[citation needed]. This community is also lived in West Bengali, Jharkhand, Bihar. Traditionally, they are agriculturist and fishing cast. According to THE IMPERIAL GAZETTEER OF INDIA VOL9, chains belonging to the santhal par gana are categorised under aboriginal tribes written in page no 243 Maldah. The Bihar government has recommended to ministry of tribal affairs to bring chains under scheduled tribe on 05/09/15.
