Template:Syrian Constitution Chapter 4 of the Syrian Constitution is the fourth part of the Syrian constitution introduced on 13 March 1973 and amended by referendum on February 26, 2012. The chapter contains 7 articles. It discusses general and transitional provisions.[1]

Article 155 limited the presidential term of office, saying "The term of office of the current President of the Republic terminates after 7 years of his being sworn in as President. He has the right to stand again for the office of President of the Republic. Provisions of Article 88 of this Constitution apply to him as of the next presidential elections."[1]

Article 88 ensures that Bashar al-Assad will stand down and "can be elected for only one more successive term."[1]
