Charlotte Mary Deane (born 1975) is a statistician, Professor of Structural Bioinformatics and the Head of the Department of Statistics at the University of Oxford.
Early life and education
Charlotte was born on the 6th of May 1975.[1] She completed her undergraduate education at University College, Oxford studying chemistry, completing her final year project in Graham Richards group.[2][1] She then went to the University of Cambridge to study structural bioinformatics supervised by Tom Blundell.[3] In 2000 she published her thesis entitled "Protein structure prediction: amino acid propensities and comparative modelling".[4]
Career and research
After completing her PhD Charlotte moved to UCLA where she stayed for two years supervised by David Eisenberg as a Wellcome Trust Research Fellow, before moving back to Oxford.[3][5] Charlotte's research is focused on the prediction of protein structures, particularly antibodies. Her research group created a database of antibody structures called SABDab[6] and a server for prediction of antibody structures called SAbPred.[7][8][9]
Honours and awards
In 2007 and 2008 she was awarded an Oxford Teaching Award.[10][11] In 2002 Charlotte was elected as fellow of Kellogg College and University Lecturer.[12] In 2010 she was elected as Professor of Structural Bioinformatics and in October 2015 she was appointed Head of the Department of Statistics at the University of Oxford.[13][14] She is the first female Head of Department since the department was created in 1988.
