Chełmiec [ˈxɛu̯mjɛt͡s] is a settlement in the administrative district of Gmina Sępopol, within Bartoszyce County, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in northern Poland, close to the border with the Kaliningrad Oblast of Russia.[1] It lies approximately 10 kilometres (6 mi) south of Sępopol, 16 km (10 mi) south-east of Bartoszyce, and 56 km (35 mi) north-east of the regional capital Olsztyn.
Before 1945 the area was part of Germany (East Prussia). Following World War II the native German populace was expelled and replaced by Poles.
