Cheryl Merle de la Rey is the vice-chancellor and principal of the University of Pretoria in South Africa.[3][4] Cheryl is the incoming vice-chancellor of the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. [5]


Life

She obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1983, Bachelor of Arts Honours in 1984 and Master of Arts in 1986 from the University of Natal all cum-laude,[6] she furthermore obtained her PhD in psychology from the University of Cape Town in 1999.[7]

She was installed as vice-chancellor in November 2009, replacing Calie Pistorius.[8] She is a qualified psychologist and was previously deputy vice-chancellor of the University of Cape Town as well as Chief Executive Officer of the Council on Higher Education (CHE).[9]
