The Chinchilla train collision occurred on June 3, 2003 in the Castilian-Manchego municipality of Chinchilla de Monte-Aragón, Albacete in Spain, when a train collision took place and killed 19 people and left some 50 injured.[1]

Victims

At first, it was estimated that 16 were dead (of which 5 were the engineers of the two trains involved) along with 10 missing and 39 wounded. After the rescue, a total of 19 people were killed and 65 others injured.

Judicial process

The defendant, found guilty, did so because of a misdemeanor as the investigations indicated; Even so the tax ministry of Castilla-La Mancha requested a penalty of 2 years and 181 days, as alleged responsible for 19 homicides and 48 crimes of recklessness. A 2006 ruling condemned him to this sought-after penalty, while establishing the cause of the accident in "an error or negligence of the station master.[2]
