Colony 28 is a 1997 sci-fi platform game developed by Napoleon Games and published by JRC Interactive.
Production
The game was developed by team called 5th Dimension led by Martin Matějka. Matějka met Jindřich Rohlík during development and 5th Dimension joined Rohlík's Napoleon Games.[2][4] Napoleon Games finished the game in 1997.
Gameplay
Colony 28 is a combination 2D action game and Adventure game. The game is played as a side-scrolling platform game. Player controls Combat robot and shoots enemies that try to destroy him. There are multiple tasks that player has to fulfill in every level. Once he finishes all tasks he moves to next level. Colony 28 is inspired by games such as Another World and Flashback.[1][2]
Story
Earth was attacked by Aliens in 2018. Humanity was enslaved and Earth was given name Colony 28. Human are turned into obedient Androids who work for Aliens. Protagonist of the game is also captured and turned into Cyborg. He preserves his memories due to malfunction. He then turns against Aliens and helps human resistance.[2][3]
Reception
The game has received mostly positive reviews.[5]
Petr Bulíř of Level gave the game 60% score. He stated that the game is similar to Flashback. He noted game's high difficulty. Bulíř praised game's atmosphere and music. He was criticial of animations and graphics. He also praised story and particularly its ending.[6]
