Communitas Charter High School (CCHS) was a progressive charter school in the Blossom Valley area of South San Jose, California that served approximately 60 students. This school was founded & supported by the Young Spirit Foundation.[1]
Academics
Communitas used a combination of project-based and inquiry-based learning in its curriculum. Integrated Studies at Communitas is a multidisciplinary approach from the subjects of English, social studies, and the sciences to help answer questions related to solving real-world problems. The school had a diverse enrollment.[2]
Campus
The school was located on 4849 Pearl Avenue, San Jose, California and shares its campus with the neighboring Erikson school near Ohlone-Cheynoweth Light Rail Station.
Closure
On May 20, 2013, the Communitas Board of Directors voted to close the school due to financial and enrollment difficulties.[citation needed] On October 24, 2013, controversy was raised in a report by the San Jose Mercury News relating to several former students who were denied entry by the Campbell Union High School District without being forced to repeat a year.[3]
