Cookies by Design, formerly Cookie Bouquet, is a producer of handmade, hand-decorated cookies (and other baked goods) arranged into a decorative bouquet for a variety of occasions, holidays and celebrations. They specialize in providing their customers with the ability to customize a cookie gift for their loved ones and can provide both hand delivery and same day delivery for particular products within their inventory. Founded in 1983 by Gwen Willhite and based in Plano, Texas, the company's first franchise opened in 1987. In 2004, parent company MGW Group announced that their Cookie Bouquet "shoppes" would begin operating under the name Cookies by Design in order to better reflect the variety of products sold. The concept was acquired by an investment group in December 2007[1]

History

Cookies by Design started as a woman owned business and was founded in 1983 by Gwen Willhite. With the combination of two traditional gifts of flowers and sweets, she created a deliciously clever concept: The Cookie Bouquet. Her edible bouquets of custom-shaped and hand-decorated sugar and cinnamon brown sugar cookies on sticks were cleverly arranged in baskets as tasty gifts for any holiday or occasion. These impressive gifts were instant hits among men and women alike, especially because the product "tasted as good as it looked" and was something for both parties to enjoy. Gwen's budding enterprise soon outgrew her own home kitchen and her baking expenditure set foot onto a now 30+ year path of success and continuous growth.

After the Dallas business was established, Gwen turned her attention to the numerous requests from others wishing to start their own Cookie Bouquet franchise. The first franchised Cookie Bouquet location opened in 1987 and the momentum has been growing ever since. To better reflect all of the creative, unique and customized products sold, Cookie Bouquet locations changed their names to "Cookies by Design" in 2004. Today Cookies by Design has about 80 stores nationwide with franchise territories still for sale.
