DLF (formerly DLF-TRIFOLIUM) is a leading international supplier of grass seed and other crops. The company has its headquarter in Roskilde, Denmark. It works in R&D, production and sales of cool season grass and clover seeds directed towards the major seed consuming areas of the world.[1] The company is owned by 3,200 Danish grass seed growers through DLF AmbA, and employs 844 people in 15 countries.[2] It supplies more than 80 countries[3] of clover and grass seeds for purposes ranging from forage grasses for agriculture to turf grasses for both the professional and private markets. With an estimated world market share of approximately 25% (2014[4]), the group is the world’s largest grass seed company within the breeding, production, sales and marketing of cool season clover and grass seed species. DLF delivers grass seeds for major sport events as Champions League, The World Cup for both men and women and the Olympic Games. DLF is an important supplier of grass seed to the World Cup in Russia in 2018.

Business areas

DLF's clover and grass seed business is divided into four segments; forage grass, turf grass for professionals, turf grass for the retail market and other crops.

  • Forage grass, which covers grass and clover seed for agriculture
  • Turf grass for professionals, which covers the building and construction sector, local authorities, public parks and sports facilities
  • Turf grass for the retail market, which covers consumers shopping in garden centres, Do-It-Yourself chains and supermarkets.
  • Other crops cover sugar beets, oilseed rape and potatoes

The company produces approximately 300 different varieties that are components in several grass seed mixtures and brands.[citation needed]

Its main brands are ForageMax, Masterline, Turfline, Johnsons Lawn Seed and Johnsons Sports Seed.

Ownership

95% of DLF shares are owned by DLF AmbA. DLF AmbA is owned by 3,200 grass seed growers in Denmark and is the holding company for the operating company DLF Seeds & Science.
