Dasharatha Maurya

Dasaratha Maurya was the Emperor of the Mauryan dynasty from 232 BCE to 224 BCE. According to the Matsya Purana, he succeeded his grandfather Ashoka the Great.[1] He succeeded Ashoka after his uncle Kunala became blind, which made him unfit to rule. Dasaratha's son did not succeed him, instead Kunala's son Samprati did.
Reign
Daśaratha was only about twenty years old, when he ascended to the throne with the help of ministers. According to the Puranas, he reigned for eight years.[2]
Daśaratha dedicated three caves in the Nagarjuni Hills to the Ajivikas. Three inscriptions ordered by Devanampiya Daśaratha state that the caves were dedicated immediately on his succession.[3]
