David Posnack Hebrew Day School is a private Jewish day school located in Plantation, Florida and Davie, Florida.

History

The school was founded in 1974 as an elementary school. The middle school was added in 1995 and the high school in 1998. A large pile of feces was found in the auditorium in 2010 and the whole school was sanitized due to E. Coli concentrations.

Tablet PC program

For the 2009-2010 school year, the Upper School initiated a Tablet PC program. They use the Toshiba Portege M750 Series. The classes are run on the computer using a program called Dyknow, and Microsoft OneNote.

For the 2010-2011 year, students will be permitted to use a non-tablet PC but must also have a Wacom Bamboo Tablet attachment. The systems will all be running Windows XP, Vista, or 7. Tablets

Administration

As of June 2010, the High School principal will be Dr. Marjorie Freedman, the Middle School principal will be Gayle Green, and the Elementary School principal will be Linda Gutheit. The head of school shall be Geri Steif.

Campus

The David Posnack Hebrew Day School has two campuses:

  • the Davie Campus in Davie, Florida. This is where the whole elementary school is housed. After the move in January 2011, this will be the only campus.
  • the Upper School, which is currently in Plantation. In January 2011, the Upper School campus will relocate to the Davie Campus.


Curriculum

High School curriculum includes Science, Mathematics, Tanach, English, Hebrew, Physical Education, Health, World History, and Rabbinics. The School has an outstanding Advanced Placement program in History, Economics, Government, Psychology, Human Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Calculus, Statistics, English, Music and Art.(In the High School, if a student finishes the required Hebrew curriculum, they learn Arabic for their last year in high school.) Middle School curriculum includes Science, Torah, Mathematics (Including Advanced Courses), Hebrew, English, Physical Education, World History, United States History, Jewish Denominations, Jewish History, Israel History and Holocaust Studies.
