Deolinda Fonseca (born 1954 in Porto, died 2022 in Copenhagen) was a Portuguese painter who, since 1979, primarily worked in Denmark. She was known both for her oil paintings of abstract themes with realistic imagery, and for her portraits that combine realistic representation with abstract expressionism.[1][2]

History[edit]

Fonseca graduated as a painter and sculptor from Faculdade de Belas-Artes do Porto in 1979. In 1985, she graduated from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts with a degree in Supplemental Studies.[3] She lives in Denmark.[4]

In 2002, she received Portugal's medal of honor, the "Order of Prince Henry" (in Portuguese, "Ordem do Infante D. Henrique"), a type of knighthood.[5]

Fonseca exhibited throughout Denmark and Portugal,[6] and in other European countries. Her work is displayed in museums, embassies and private collections in Europe and the United States.[7]
