Devadiga are a community from the districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada in the Indian state of Karnataka.

Introduction / History

The Devadiga of India live mainly in Tulu Nadu in South Western India in Karnataka and Kerala. They speak in Tulu language and in Kannada.

The Devadiga are Hindus by religion. They are temple attendants and temple musicians. In Tula regions they have a form of spirit worship.

They have a system where the family of the mother controls family and property dealings and functions too.

The Devadiga have contributed to a classical folk art tradition called Yakshagana that is well liked in South India.
