Emily Suvaal is an Australian politician, nurse and trade unionist. She was elected as a Member of the New South Wales Legislative Council at the 2023 state election.
Career
[edit]Suvaal is a registered nurse and has been a representative on the "A Healthy Society Policy Committee" of NSW Labor since 2019.[1] In 2021, Suvaal indicated her intention to run for Labor preselection in the division of Hunter with the impending retirement of Joel Fitzgibbon.[2] Olympic shooter Daniel Repacholi was ultimately preselected.[3] In 2022, Suvaal was endorsed as a NSW Labor candidate for the Legislative Council at the 2023 state election.[4][5]
Personal life
[edit]Suvaal resides in Cessnock with her husband Jay. She has two sons and volunteers on the board of directors for the community childcare centre attended by them.[1]
Suvaal is passionate about improving community mental health services after her own experience of anorexia from teenage years to young adulthood.[6]
