Squirrel Capital is a Spanish audio-visual and advertising group founded in 2003. It's the owner of Squirrel Media (previously Vértice 360) which was acquired by the holding in 2016.

History

[edit]

Squirrel Capital was founded by Pablo Pereiro Lage in September 2003 as a holding company focused on communication, real estate, and professional services. In 2013 Squirrel Capital entered the Italian market with two new companies: Best Option Media Italia and Best Option Products Italia.[1][2][3] In 2016, his company Squirrel Capital acquired a 25% stake in Vértice 360, an audiovisual production and distribution company founded in October 2006 from Telson, and consisted of 17 assets including Videoreport, Manga Films [es], Telespan and Notro Films [es].[4] It was undergoing insolvency proceedings. In a year, the company get out of bankruptcy, was again listed on the stock market, and signed film distribution contracts with national and international producers.[5]

In 2019, he continued working in media sector and added the theme TV channels Nautical Channel, Horse TV or Class TV.[6] In September 2021, Vértice 360 was rebranded as Squirrel Media, and its ticker on the Madrid Stock Exchange became SQRL.[7] His company acquired production companies Grupo Ganga, known for the series Cuéntame cómo pasó,[8][9][10] La Comercial, which produces Madrileños por el mundo,[11] BF Distribution, the film distributor in Latin America,[12][11] and OTT platform CanalDeporte. His company also initiated the acquisition of Mondo TV Studios, a company dedicated to producing and distributing animated content.[13][14][15] In 2024, Squirrel Media acquired IKI Group, an advertising group in Spain,[16][17][18] and Design Thinking Sweden,[19] followed by the acquisition of The Hook in summer of the same year.[20]

Squirrel Media

[edit]

Squirrel Media was founded as Vértice 360 (also Vértice 360º) in October 2006 and consisted of 17 assets including Videoreport, Manga Films [es], Telespan and Notro Films [es].[4] Notro Films' president José María Irisarri then assumed executive chairman duties.[21] Around the time of its stock exchange entry in December 2007, Avanzit owned a 43% of the capital.[4][22]

In 2009, Vértice 360º merged Manga Films and Notro Films to create the distribution label Vértice Cine.[23] In 2011, Irisarri announced his resignation due to disagreements with major shareholder Ezentis, the new brand identity of Avanzit.[24][25][n. 1] Vértice 360 filed for voluntary insolvency proceedings in 2014.[27] In 2016, Ezentis agreed to divest its shareholding in the company and sell its 25.4% share of stocks to Squirrel Inversiones.[28] In 2021, with Pablo Pereiro Lage as the CEO and chairman, Vértice 360 was renamed to Squirrel Media (self-billed as a company dedicated to "Advertising, Media, Contents and Audiovisual Services"); the name Vértice 360 was restricted from then on to the production and distribution businesses of the company.[29][30][31]
