Remah Naji is a diaspora Palestinian social and education worker and organiser[1] that has lived in Australian since 2013.[2]
Naji is a prominent organiser in the Australian Palestine movement, and was announced as the Greens candidate for[3] the upcoming Australian federal election in August 2024 the division of Moreton. Naji's candidacy is notable as it build on the 2022 Greensland movement.
Personal life
[edit]Naji has two children, and lived in Moreton since 2016.[1] Naji is also a National Teritary Education Union member at University of Queensland.[4]
Naji was a former broadcaster on Radio 4EB[4] where they hosted radio shows on the topics of integration and active citizenship. Naji has also translated two books on these topics.[2]
Politics
[edit]Naji is an organiser in the Justice for Palestine Magan-djin,[3] and has spoken and organised pro-Palestine rallies across the North Coast including the Brisbane Palm Sunday Rally for Peace and Refugees,[4] Byron Bay Ceasefire Now and BDS Conference[5] and Coffs Harbour Gather for Gaza.[6]
Naji advocacy for Palestine has also seen them prominently cycle 195 km for Palestine in 2019 and 2023 as part of The Ride for Palestine.[7]
Naji was announced as the Greens candidate for the federal division of Moreton at the upcoming Australian federal election in August 2024.[3] The federal division of Moreton is currently held by Labor MP Graham Perrett, who is rumored to be retiring, and only holds the seat on a margin of 9 per cent.[4]
Previous to joining the Greens, Naji was a long time Annerley Labor member[8]
