St. Cloud State University is a four year university and part of Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU) system, located in St. Cloud, Minnesota on the banks of the Mississippi River. Its athletic team is called the Huskies. The school operates a radio station, KVSC 88.1 FM. Their current President is Roy Saigo, who was also a former SCSU student. (think of those Hair Club for Men commercials where the guy says "I'm not only the President, I'm also a member and you'll get that)

St. Cloud State University runs a liberal newspaper, called the University Chronicle and has roughly 15,000 students, including 1500 international students (from over 80 different countries) or students of color. Recently the SCSU campus has benefited from the founding of the new G.R. Herberger's School of Business, named after the founder of the faceless, megacorporate retail giant. SCSU has an excellent academic program, including a new nursing program and also some of the lowest tuition you can find in the state. SCSU offers over a 175 different majors, minors and pre-professional programs with a strong emphasis on the unifying paradigm in methodological as well as substantive education. When it comes to undergraduate studies, SCSU offers an unparalleled plethora of classes ranging from economics, to graphic design, to criminal justice and even film studies. But make no mistake, SCSU also has a strong graduate studies program for those students for which the desire to learn is a continuing journey, even after graduation.

The SCSU community is also robust. Although our homecoming elections and student government leave something to be desired sometimes according to the silent majority of the campus, SCSU does have over 200 student organizations which provide support, guidance and valuable friendship to its members. Another pride the Huskies have is in their famous (or infamous to their foes) Hockey team.

SCSU is, often regrettably, known in the state as being a "party school" which is a wholly undeserved status which yearns back to an oft exaggerated "riot" that occurred back in 1990 which resulted in many loud people walking the streets and one car being flipped over. In those fifteen years, no more riots or even small uprisings have occurred, except by the radical left-wing protestors on campus during the beginning of the Iraq War in March 2003. Fortunately no drugs were present, no police presence was needed, and no rational minded people even concerned themselves with those protestors.

With tuition fees hard to undercut, a wonderful and diverse community of students, and a strong academic focus (with concentrations in mass communications, business, engineering and education) the question shouldn't be, why should you consider visiting SCSU, but why not? Objectively speaking of course.
