The acronym "ECTV" is also used for Ethiopian Community Television[1] in the United States. ECTV is a 501 (c) (3) NPO/NGO nonprofit community-based media resource center.

John Cunningham is the Director of Programming with Dr. Neil Kulupka as his assistant and one of the three top cameramen employed by the station. Mike Arnold and James Williams are the other two. Williams is also heard on air at times with Matt Werner and Matt Kamp.

Early years[edit]

ECTV-10 began in 1986 with the idea to keep the community informed on the current events in the Madison County community, including Edwardsville and Glen Carbon.

ECTV continues to grow as technology is becoming more available for the station. City meetings are now live instead of tape delayed.

Edwardsville High School now has a live feed and graduation will be shot live, while athletics may soon go that direction as well. Also, the station is working on getting digital cameras and making their telecasts much stronger visually.

ECTV-10 covers all athletics for Edwardsville High School, except track, cross country, and golf. Announcers for the sports are Matt Werner (soccer, baseball, softball, basketball, hockey, and volleyball), Matt Kamp (soccer, baseball, softball, basketball, hockey, and volleyball), Mike Williams (baseball and basketball), and Todd Zude (football).

Games covered include all home games and playoff games. Most notable games, include;

The Collinsville Kahoks defeating the Edwardsville Tigers in 1996 on a full court shot at the buzzer in the playoffs. The Alton Redbirds defeating the Edwardsville Tigers in 1997 in six overtimes. The O'Fallon Panthers defeating the Edwardsville Tigers in 2008 on a buzzer beater at the Sectional Championship game. The 2001 Quarterfinals and Semi-Finals of the IHSA soccer tournament in which the team took first. The 2002 IHSA State Tournament, which saw the Tigers place second in the tournament. First year the title game was shot. The 1998 and 1990 Edwardsville Tigers baseball teams, which won the state tournament. The 2007 Edwardsville softball team placing third at state, in which the whole IHSA State Tournament was shot. Multiple MVCHA Championships since the 2000 season begun. The Collinsville Kahoks football team beating the Edwardsville Tigers 59-28 on September 19, 2008 in Collinsville. This was the Kahoks' first win over the Tigers since 1982.

The SIU-E Cougars are covered by Matt Werner, Matt Kamp, and Chris Bray. Sports include soccer, volleyball, and basketball.

The only music played on ECTV-10 are the concerts as the channel does not include music into their athletic telecasts.

ECTV recognized[edit]

The Edwardsville Intelligencer has written a piece on Director of Programming John Cunningham discussing the television station and all that it does for the Edwardsville community.

At the dedication of Tom Pile Field on May 3, 2008, Edwardsville High School coach Tim Funkhouser mentioned his most memorable moment came on a diving catch he made on ECTV and the panning over of the camera to focus on his dad's reaction after the play.
