East Hollywood High School (EHHS) is an accredited public charter school in West Valley City, Utah that specializes in film production training for students grades 9-12. As of 2013, the school principal is Katrina Walker. Chartered directly through State Office of Education, EHHS enrolls approximately 350 students each year.[citation needed]

Apprenticeship Learning

EHHS is uniquely located in the former KUTV studios in West Valley City, UT. Film production classes are offered by industry professionals.

Class/Student Body Size

The student body is fewer than 350 and average class sizes are smaller than 25 students.

Extension of the Educational Program

Many students take advantage of the Concurrent Enrollment partnership with Salt Lake Community College, through which they can receive college credit without leaving EHHS.

School film projects include:

2008-2009 Shakespeare's MacBeth

2009-2010 Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing premiered at Utah's Historic Tower Theatre in September 2010. Jake Larrabee (Benedick), Robin Noble (Beatrice), Jimmy Cudahy (Claudio), and Brighton Metz (Hero) all star in this film. Directed By Brandon Arnold.

2010-2011 Shakespeare's Hamlet

Currently, a documentary on the story of how the school came to be, as well as the experiences and people that have gone through it, has just wrapped up production and has just started post production. The documentary will be directed by Brandon Arnold (faculty), and music will be provided by Dakota Nelson (student).

Drama

The current drama teacher at East Hollywood High is Natalie Dallimore. During the '07-'08 school year, Dallimore directed Fiddler on the Roof.

'08-'09 spring production of Bram Stoker's Dracula--Natalie Dallimore (producer) Bri'anna Cootey (student director), Mali Walker (student director), and Jonathan Aspittle (student director).

'08-'09 musical "Flapper: A Madcap Musical from the Roaring 20s"--Natalie Dallimore (director) Devon Marie Trop (student director)

'09-'10 musical "Cirque de conte de Fees: Circus of the Fairy Tales"--Natalie Dallimore (director) Ashley Brown (writer) Robert Gardner (original music)

Notable Achievements

EHHS student film projects Utah High School Film Festival. EHHS students received first place in:

  • Documentary: Derick Lawrence - "Pink Elephants"
  • PSA: Alek Sabin, Sydney Patten - "Chivalry"
  • Short Films: Jordan Bringhurst - "Indol"
  • Animation: Aine Graham, David Walker, Jake Larrabee - "The Show Down"

On June 15, 2009, EHHS received recognition for Best Progress from KSL.
