East Side Sushi is a feature-length film starring Diana Elizabeth Torres, released in 2015 by Sammy Goldwyn Films, and directed by Anthony Lucero.

Plot

Juana is a single mother who can slice and dice with great speed and precision. For years she works for a fruit-vending cart then seeks work at a local Japanese restaurant. She is hired as a sous chef and eventually starts to develop signature sushi dishes. She asks to become a Sushi chef, but is turned down as she is a woman and also not Japanese. She quits but is invited back to work as a Sushi chef. She then goes on a reality show to show off her preperation skills and represent the resturaunt in a sushi contest.

Reception

The movie won 9 film festival awards and was nominated for two more. The film did not perform well at box office however, making just $220,000 against what is said to be a low budget. The movie has a score of 94% at Rotten Tomatoes.
