Elaine Smith (born 23 April 1962) is a Scottish-born actress who found fame on Australian television.

Career

Smith is best known for her role as Daphne Clarke in the soap opera Neighbours. She auditioned for a guest role in the show in 1984.[1] However, her appearance, particularly her short hair, caught the attention of the casting director and she was cast as Daphne Lawrence, one of the show's original cast members.[1] Smith continued in the role until 1988.[2] Prior to this she had a small guest role in the soap Sons and Daughters as an air hostess in 1984.

Subsequent credits include: The Flying Doctors, State Coroner, Always Greener, Home and Away and All Saints in 2006.[2] She returned to University to earn a degree in teaching, and is now a drama and primary school teacher.
