Emberiza is a genus of passerine birds of the bunting family Emberizidae.

The genus was introduced by the Swedish naturalist Carl Linnaeus in 1758 in the tenth edition of his Systema Naturae.[1] The type species was subsequently designated as the yellowhammer.[2] The genus name Emberiza is from Old German Embritz, a bunting.[3] The origin of English "bunting" is unknown.[4]
