Expedition Amazon is a 1983 role-playing video game designed by Willard Phillips and published by Penguin Software.[1] The goal of the game is to guide four explorers as they study Incan ruins.[2] There are four classes in the game: Medic, Field Assistant, Radio Operator, and Guard.

Reception and legacy

Computer Gaming World criticized its documentation, but called Expedition Amazon "a very enjoyable game that doesn't take itself too seriously" and suggested that it be played with friends. Gamasutra cited Expedition Amazon as one of the first non-fantasy role-playing video games, with players fighting natives and disease versus orcs and dragons. They also stated that the game suffered from serious design flaws and did not sell well, ultimately having little influence over later games.[2]
