Mukundrao Ramrao Jaykar, A Pathare Prabhu gentleman of twentieth century known as one of the builders of modern India, scholar and statesman he had a notable role in the crucial period of India's struggle for freedom. He often played the role of a bridge between English rulers and Indian freedom fighters. Liberal of views and moderate in politics, he was highly respected by all concerned and enjoyed their trust. He was instrumental for creation of a University of Pune and was founder vice-Chancellor of that University.
