The Brown and Roberts Hardware store at 182 Main Street, Brattleboro, Vermont was built in 1929 as a Montgomery Ward store. The medallion at the top -- "Progress Lighting the Way for Commerce" -- was designed by J. Massey Rhind and appeared on many of the chain's stores. The Montgomery Ward store closed in 1975. The building is located within the Battleboro owntown Historic District. (Source: "The Visitor's Guide to Brattleboro and the Vibrant Villages of Southern Vermont" (2010))
