Description
English: Sculpture entitled "1898" by Andrew O'Connor, Jr. Located in Wheaton Square, near Salisbury Street, Worcester, Massachusetts, USA. Dedicated 1917. Granite base enscribed: TO.THE.MEN.OF.WORCESTER/IN.THE.WAR.WITH.SPAIN/1898. The sculpture was a gift of Camp 28, U.S. War Veterans. The monument was built at a cost of $7,000, of which $4,000 was donated by the City Council and the rest was raised by the citizens of Worcester. One of the artist's students, Vincent S. Wickham, was a model for the sculpture.
