Fords Pony car, the Mustang was first introduced in April, 1964.
The engine bay enlarged in 1967, to fit a big block engine.
1968 was a mild facelift on the 67 car; now with front and rear side markers, the grilles in the quarter behind the door were gone, the bars from the Pony 'Corral' were removed and the steering wheel was changed to an energy absorbing one.

Shelby American built performance versions of the Mustang.
For 1968, the were called the Shelby Cobras. For the first time they used cobra snake badges and a Shelby convertible was also available (previously all fastbacks). The 1968 Shelby hood was restyled, the scoops closer to the front than in 1967. Driving lights were now rectangular. Thunderbird tail lights that flashed sequentially like a chaser light were used. Inside there was a padded roll bar with inertia-reel shoulder harness attached and woodgrain dash and door trims.
