Summary

Description
English: Construction site on NW corner Springfield Ave. and 2nd St. Champaign, Illinois, site of the NRHP Stone Arch Bridge (since May 14, 1981). It's not clear what exactly is happening here. The new bridge shown here is much bigger than the Stone Arch Bridge (which was 7.5 ft long by 18 ft wide - strange as that seems) The new bridge also seems to be too far north to be a reconstruction of the old. South of the photographer (me) are two new bridges in Scott Park across the Boneyard Creek. Stone on the right hand side of the photo is close to the site of the old bridge, and may be from the old bridge. The old bridge was instrumental in connecting Urbana Illinois to the upstart railroad town Champaign, and was credited with saving the existence of Urbana.
