Summary
| Description | A First Great Western InterCity 125 at Swansea, where it terminates with a service from London Paddington. The InterCity 125 is the world's fastest diesel train and is used on high-speed intercity services in Britain which involve the use of unelectrified lines. Currently all daytime intercity services by First Great Western use InterCity 125 sets with the exception of certain services to Hereford, Great Malvern and Oxford (though some do use the InterCity 125). The InterCity 125 will be replaced on services from London Paddington to Bristol, Cardiff, Swansea and Oxford by 2018, but will remain on services to Carmarthen, Pembroke Dock, Cheltenham, Gloucester, Worcester, Plymouth, Penzance, Newquay, Exeter, Taunton, Westbury and Weston-super-mare until at least 2035, as there are no proposals to electrify the lines there. |
