Original Image Name: Piciwiki_israel_88369_DSC01591.JPG Notes: כפר הנוער הוקם בשנת 1927 על אדמות בית החרושת חדיד. הכפר נוסד על ידי ד"ר זיגפריד להמן, מתוך מטרה להנחיל לילדים ולנוער ערכי ציונות, עבודת האדמה והערכת בני האדם. מבני הכפר תוכננו על ידי האדריכל הארצישראלי פריץ קורנברג. וילפריד ישראל שימש בתפקיד נשיא כפר הנוער בן־שמן משנות העשרים ועד יום מותו ב1943.ב-1932 קלט כפר הנוער את הקבוצה הראשונה של עליית הנוער, קבוצה של 12 נערים ונערות שהגיעו ארצה על ידי רחה פראייר. זו הייתה תחילתה של תנועת עלייה גדולה, שמנתה בסופה מאות אלפי ילדים ובני נוער מכל התפוצות.
