Summary

Description Four U.S. Navy Douglas A4D-2 Skyhawks (BuNos 142736, 144916, 144888, 144949) of Attack Squadron VA-86 "Sidewinders" flying in formation. VA-86 was assigned to Carrier Air Group 7 (CVG-7) aboard the aircraft carrier USS Independence (CVA-62).

Note: the photo is dated 23 September 1963. However, VA-86 flew the A4D-2 from December 1957 to September 1962 before converting to the A4D-2N (A-4C) just around the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis.[1]
