SOMALIA. Saa'moja / Kisamayo: In a handout photograph released by the African Union-United Nations Information Support Team 01 October, soldiers of the Kenyan Contingent serving with the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) are seen silhouetted against the sky while standing atop a tank in Saa'moja, an area approx. 7km outside the Somali port city of Kismayo. For the last two months, AMISOM's Kenyan Contingent in support of the Somali National Army (SNA) has been steadily liberating areas and villages in Southern Somalia formally under the control of the Al Qaeda-affiliated extremist group Al Shabaab, which has brought them to the outskirt's of the group's last major stronghold. On the back of a string of strategic and territorial losses to SNA and AMISOM forces across Somalia over the last 12 months, commanders are now making final preparations to move into Kismayo and liberate the city completely from Al Shabaab control.
