A bottle of Brune or Bruin from Brasserie de l’Abbaye des Rocs in Montignies-sur-Roc, Belgium. Abbaye des Rocs Brune is a 9% abv Belgian brown ale, this bottle had a best before date of 21 November 2014 so it was still fairly fresh. It poured a a coppery brown color with a beige head. It smelled faintly of citrus, with a mild malty sweetness underneath. As it warmed up I got more ripe fruits too. Mouthfeel was medium heavy with a silky smooth texture. Flavor started sweet with notes of ripe fruits and some yeast. It had a rounded sweetness, not sticky, which lingered in the long aftertaste along with some fruity notes. Overall a very elegant beer - sweet, fruity and dangerously drinkable. |
