English: An expanded-polystyrene (EPS) particle with a diameter of 1-2 mm was levitated in mid-air, whilst the illumination of RGB LED light. The particle was displaced in a vertical rastering format, and the color projected on the particle was changed synchronously to the position of the particle. The rendering time of this image is 20 seconds, and long exposure was utilized to record this image. The size of screen is 23 by 23 mm, and 60 ultrasonic transducers were utilized to levitate the particle. See the publication by Fushimi et al. for the details on the display technology:
