Summary
DescriptionAdam - one of the Beckhampton Longstones - geograph.org.uk - 1098202.jpg |
English: Adam - one of the Beckhampton Longstones This standing stone, known locally as 'Adam', is one of a pair called the Beckhampton Longstones. This stone is the only remaining stone in the Beckhampton Cove, a neolithic arrangement of megaliths. The other nearby stone, known as Eve, was part of a megalithic avenue emanating from the west side of Avebury henge. Despite its masculine name, this lozenge-shaped sarsen stone is supposed to have a 'female' nature. This is an end-on view of the slab-like stone which must around 3 metres tall. |
