Use in article (WP:NFCC#7) | Aleksandr Serebrov |
Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) | for visual identification of the person in question, at the top of his/her biographical article |
Not replaceable with free media because (WP:NFCC#1) |
No sufficient images of him are available under free licences. No Russian photos from after 1945 can possibly be public domain in the United States. No photo-portraits from when he was in the space program have copyright expired yet. Copyright law about Russian and Soviet postage stamps and postage covers is strange (in such that Russian postage stamps are considered "public domain", but do not permit certain modifications defined by Wikimedia's 4 Freedoms, etc). A photo-portrait from when he was in the cosmonaut program, not a very poor-quality group illustration from a postage stamp, is necessary to represent the person in a due manner. Despite numerous letters, Russian photo agencies that own the copyright have not responded to my numerous requests for CC licenses for photos of cosmonauts, presumably due to a language barrier. Russian copyright holders rarely respond positively to requests for CC licenses (language barrier and lack of understanding copyright, ignorance about what a Creative Commons license is, the common misconception that Soviet photos are already public domain and hence do not need releases, etc among the Russian population are a significant problems with regard to obtaining Russian photos under free licenses) Henceforth, there will be no quality photo of Serebrov available for the infobox until cosmonaut program photos begin to enter the public domain in the second half of the 21st century, many decades from now. |
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3) | Image size reduced, just for identification purposes. |
Respect for commercial opportunities (WP:NFCC#2) |
Photo is old, photographer (Pushkarev) died in 2010, and resolution is low. |
Other information | The subject of the photograph has been deceased since 2013. Copyright expires 2081 |
