Summary[edit]

File information
Description

Apparent and actual orbit trajectories of B component of Alpha Centauri binary star system around A component.

The thin ellipse with bright marks (on the grid with size 5 arcsec) represents apparent trajectory projected to plane of the sky (Earth's). The green chord represents projection of the ellipse major axis with Periastron in May 2035 on one end. The red dashed chord represents ascending-descending node line - the intersection between the ellipse plane and plane of the sky including A component.

The other ellipse represents dimensions of the actual trajectory. The axis units are AU.

Marks on the ellipses represent position of B component relative to A component January 1st 1996 - 2075. The positions are calculated based on data found on the Wikipedia Alpha Centauri page.
