English: Last Meon Valley train at Alton.
View NE, towards Farnham and London: ex-LSW Waterloo - Woking - Alton line (electrified 1937). The branch to Fareham via Droxford closed that day, 5/2/55; goods to Farringdon 5/8/68. The Winchester line was closed 5/2/73 but restored in stages from 11/75 by the heritage Mid-Hants Railway as far as Alresford. (Earlier (6/1901 - 12/9/32; goods 1/6/36) the Light Railway from Basingstoke had joined from the London direction). Note the wreath carried by ex-LSW Drummond M7 class No. 30055 (built 12/1905, withdrawn 9/63). See also SU7239 : Local train to Winchester at Alton.
