English: International Mercantile Marine Company's Chelsea Piers, North River, New York

Five passenger steamers tied up at the Chelsea Piers, circa early 1917, before the United States entered World War I. SS Kroonland is at right, with her name painted on her side. She later became USS Kroonland (ID # 1541). Tug Victor J. Newton is in the center of the image, with her stern toward the camera.

Date Created February 1917 (after 12 February, when Kroonland arrived from Liverpool). This photograph was published on page 2 of section II in the 19 March 1917 edition of the Los Angeles Times (Caption headline: "American Line steamers tied up in New York"), placing this photograph in the public domain in the United States.
