Being in a better position now than last year, government forces launched numerous more offensives across the country's interior. With UNITA suffering many defeats such as losing Soyo, N'dalatando, the Cuango Valley mining centers, northern Huila, Huambo, and their siege on Kuito lifted, both sides signed a truce as part of the Lusaka Protocol by mid-November.
