Peter Ducane (1713-1804) was a merchant, Governor and director of both the Bank of England and the East India Company. His wife, was a wealthy heiress, the only duaghter of Henry Norris, a Muscovy merchant. The family are depicted in the grounds of their house at Braxted in Essex. The house itself appears in the middle distance of the central panel depicting the three Ducane children.
