Summary

Description

Map of Wikivoyage district boundaries for Austin Texas. These do not precisely correspond to traditional neighborhoods, but are defined simplistically for the purpose of dividing all of Austin into seven "districts" which can relatively easily be understood by those who do not reside in Austin.

The district boundaries which do not correspond to the Mo-Pac freeway (i.e. the slanting pinkish vertical to the left), to the IH-35 freeway (i.e. the slanting pinkish vertical towards the right), or to Lady Bird Lake / Colorado River (i.e. the meandering blue area towards the bottom of the map) are drawn in red.

  • South Austin is defined as everything south of Lady Bird Lake / Colorado River, and extends off the map.
  • East Austin is defined as everything north of Lady Bird Lake / Colorado River which is also east of IH-35, and extends off the map.
  • Northwest Austin is defined as everything north of Lady Bird Lake / Colorado River and west of IH-35 which is also north of Anderson Lane (if east of Mo-Pac) and/or west of Mo-Pac (if south of Anderson Lane). The area defined in this way extends off the map. (Note that Anderson Lane is referred to as Spicewood Springs Road within Northwest Austin, and as 183 immediately to the west of IH-35.)
  • Downtown is defined as what is between Mo-Pac and IH35, and between Lady Bird Lake / Colorado River to the south and MLK street (19th) to the north.
  • University is defined as what is between Mo-Pac and IH35, and between MLK street (19th) to the south and 38th street to the north. (Note that 38th merges into 35th close to Mo-Pac.)
  • Hyde Park is defined for simplicity as what is between Guadalupe to the west and IH-35 to the east, and between 38th street to the south and 51st street to the north. Note that this is bigger than the official definition of Hyde Park used by the neighborhood association and by the city (the area on the map includes most of the Hancock neighborhood).
  • What's left over on the map is lumped together as "North Loop" (bigger than usual definitions of the North Loop neighborhood).

Source I went to https://www.openstreetmap.org/ and saved a raster map centered at -97.7377 30.30425, then cropped it along the horizontal dimension (so that the center is no longer at -97.7377 longitude), then added the red large text and boundary lines.
