Summary

Description
English: Grayscale Mosaic Image of Badwater Crater as it was taken by the HiRISE Context Camera (CTX) instrument aboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) during its many flybys of the planet Mars within its scheduled mission. The mosaic image was created using the many years of data collected from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter during its mission. It was then compiled and stitched together on April 5th, 2023, by Caltech at Murry Labs into a 5.7 terapixel global mosaic image of Mars. Badwater Crater as seen in the mosaic image, is an impact crater located in Hellas Planitia and is situated within the low-lying Plain of Peneus Palus on the Southern Hemisphere of Mars. It contains the lowest currently known point on the entire planet, as it is approximately 8 kilometres deep and has evidence of liquid brine water underflows during warmer months on Mars as well as its surrounding craters due to the increase in the atmospheric pressure of Mars reaching the triple point of water.
