Summary

Description
English: 0-4-0 saddle tank Isabel, built in 1897 by W.G. Bagnall Ltd., of Stafford (works number 1491) for the 2ft 0in gauge Cliffe Hill Quarry Railway, in Leicestershire, England. Sold back to her maker in 1952, it is shown here when plinthed in front of Stafford railway station.

The inscriptions on the two plaques in front read "This locomotive was built in the year 1897 for the Cliffe Hill Granite Co., Markfield, Leicestershire. It was brought back to Stafford in the year 1953 - Coronation year - after fifty six years service and here set up as a memorial to the three thousand steam locomotives sent out from Castle Engine Works and to the men who designed and built them." and "This locomotive was presented by the English Electric Company Ltd to Stafford Railway Circle in the year 1963. It was presented by the society to the Stafford Borough Council who have made this site available as a resting place for this example of a former industrial product for which Stafford is famous".

It is now preserved at the Amerton Railway.
Date Photographed May 1974.
