DescriptionBattle of Lewisburg - Initial Skirmish.png
English: The Battle of Lewisburg occurred on May 23, 1862, during the American Civil War. Lewisburg was at that time still part of Virginia, but would later become part of West Virginia. Union Colonel George Crook sent two companies forward to meet the Confederate army.
This map is comparable to the map on page 59 of "The Battle of Lewisburg" by Richard L. Armstrong. It has been re-oriented, so north is at the top of the map. The identification of the courthouse (original and new) has been corrected based on "The Journal of the Greenbrier Historical Society", Volume IV, Number 1, 1981. The map titled "A Map of Lewisburg 1825" was also consulted.
